Hola a tots. Potser em recordareu, sóc Orestes Mas, encarregat de la
traducció del GnuCash a la nostra llengua.
Bé, ara que porto traduïts un 25% dels 2694 missatges del GnuCash
(sense comptar el glossari ni la documentació, imprescindible per saber
com funciona el programa), puc dir que ja sé on m'he ficat. Sort que la
tasca és molt interessant i compensa a tots nivells.
Escric aquest correu -potser un xic llarg, excuseu-me- per tal de
comentar-vos els entrebancs tècnics que ha sorgit, i de com n'he superat
alguns i altres no. Sobre aquests darrers voldria demanar-vos consell.
El primer problema va ser instal.lar a la meva Debian stable/testing la
darrera versió (1.8.4) del GnuCash. Finalment ho vaig aconseguir
actualitzant algunes llibreries i compilant les fonts. Un cop fet això
vaig veure que l'aplicació per defecte no tenia en compte el català en
els Makefiles: a canviar-ho i recompilar altre cop. Sort que hi ha un
arxiu que explica bé el procés.
Ara els problemes:
1) Bé, el cas és que a mesura que vaig traduïnt vaig convertint l'arxiu
.po a .mo de tant en tant amb la comana "msgfmt -s gnucash-1.8.4.ca.po
-o gnucash.mo", i copio el resultat a
/usr/local/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES, a veure com queda, però el cas
és que, si bé en general veig perfectament les cadenes traduïdes, hi ha
alguns casos en què no hi ha manera que aparegui el text en català, i
surt sistemàticament en anglès. Pot ser un error de programació? El cas
és que part de la interfície d'usuari de GnuCash és feta en Glade, la
qual cosa vol dir que està definida en un conjunt de fitxers XML. Aquest
sistema ja és compatible amb el gettext? Potser al compilar es fa el
canvi XML->gettext? Hauria de recompilar cada cop per veure tots els
canvis fets? (la veritat és que ja ho he provat en alguna ocasió i res
de res. Hi ha cadenes que no es deixen traduir) Alguna idea de per què
no va?
2) He observat que alguns dels menús més habituals (Arxiva, Edita,
Visualitza, Ajuda) ja surten traduïts "de sèrie". Suposo que això deu
ser perquè la traducció és a les llibreries estàndards deI sistema.
Tanmateix, hi ha un detall que m'empipa, i és que la traducció que allí
s'utilitza no és homogènia amb altres. Normalment s'acostuma a usar una
forma imperativa, com l'exemple que acabo de dir, però al GnuCash
aquests menús apareixen com (Fitxer, Edició Veure, Ajuda). Suposo que no
hi ha res a fer, oi? Deu ser cosa de diferències de criteri entre la
gent de GNOME i la de KDE (també la de mozilla). Perquè no es podrien
posar d'acord?
3) Per ajudar-me en la traducció uso KBabel, però la veritat és que no
el domino gaire i no tinc massa temps d'entretenir-m'hi. Vaig intentar
configurar-lo per tal de poder visualitzar el codi font del programa
quan fes clic a la pestanya "font", però no me'n vaig sortir. Algú em
pot indicar com es fa?
4) Què són les "formes plurals" del gettext? M'afecten com a traductor?
5) Quines coses interessants es poden fer amb el gestor de catàlegs del
KBabel?
6) Quan tingui quelcom llest (de moment ja tinc gairebé tot el
glossari) a qui li haig d'enviar? Algú ho revisa?
Bé, em sembla que ja n'hi ha prou de moment. No voldria abusar de la
vostra paciència amb un novell.
